Apparatjik recently contributed a mini-summit to the 'Globe' art, performance & music program held at the Deutsche Bank Towers in Frankfurt. Apparatjik on Ping 11/03/2010
![]() Apparatjik have recently signed up to Ping, the new social network side of iTunes. Ping enables users to follow their favourite bands and artists, and allows artists to share pictures, videos and other interesting tidbits. It's as annoying as the rest of iTunes tho and I doubt it'll dampen their fondness for posting random stuff on facebook any time soon, so if you have an aversion to iTunes, like me, you probably won't be missing much. In other news, Magne has promised in a recent Radio 2 interview that the band have more exciting shenanigans planned for 2011 - "Well yeah, there's a lot of hoovering to be done around the house on the 5th of December, so I am gonna be starting my new career as a domesticated animal (laughs). Other than that I assume that it will be much the same as it has been, I have always juggled a career as a visual artist running parallel to music. The only real difference is that a-ha won't be recording and won't be touring. And I will be looking forward to collaborating with other musicians and musical projects, whether it be writing or recording, or indeed crossing over into other areas, like this side project with my friends from other bands like Coldplay and Mew, through this Apparatjik thing that we have going. I look forward to a few very exciting things with those guys in 2011. Other than that I will be exhibiting and writing..." Thanks to Catherine for posting this on the forum. Serpentine show review 09/25/2010
![]() The very red and angular structure of the Serpentine Pavilion (designed by Jean Nouvel) seemed the perfect location for Apparatjik's art/music combo. Even the rain dripping through the joints couldn't dampen the excited buzz surrounding the cube. Apparatjik themselves walked to the cube wearing identical red hoodies and massive cardboard cube-shaped heads and after a short animation featuring those cubeheads, they launched spectacularly into Arrow and Bow. ![]() They rattled through a selection of the better album tracks (though Antlers and Electric Eye were noticably absent), slowing the pace at intervals for calmer audio/visual delights such as Frozen Fingers and Intermission. The full programme was: Arrow and Bow, Snow Crystals, Granul No 8, Quiz Show, Supersonic Sound, Look Kids, Intermission, Datascroller, Frozen Fingers Josie, Deadbeat Of course, there was more crazy headgear during the show; the usual tin foil antlers and plastic squares plus some spagetti hair for Martin. It was nice to be able to finally appreciate just how much of the vocal comes from Martin, after months of speculation on that point since the album release. And of course the half self-conscious, half madcap dancing was fun to watch in close-up :-) More photos are in the gallery and a handful of videos from the performance are now on our youtube channel. Discussions and dissection are going on in the forum as ever, along with links to pics and vids from elsewhere. "The Serpentine Gallery Future Contemporaries Annual Party is a social highlight of the London art world, and this year takes place on 23 September in the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2010 designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel. Apparatjik will operate their Liberation Unit at the event which starts at 7.30 pm." ![]() Apparatjik perform tonight in the very striking-looking Serpentine Pavilion and for once, apparatchick.com will be there to witness their live show. Pictures and video to follow in due course. | AuthorThis is me ArchivesNovember 2011 CategoriesAll |
